Weekend Gezet, October 18th 2012: Most know Brazilian soprano Carla Maffioletti primarily through her concerts with André Rieu. Although she performed in 24 sold out concerts in her native Brazil with Rieu, she considers Maastricht as her home. In 1998 she started her opera studies at the Conservatory Maastricht and while there came in contact with André Rieu and his Johann Strauss Orchestra, with which she did a project and recorded a CD. "A nice experience. I had already returned to Brazil, when Rieu called me and asked if I would like to travel the world with him as a soloist. That was in 2000." The first 400 copies will have her autograph:
Suzy Hochstenbach, thank you for sharing your video clip!
Report by Elke Freitag, translated by Ineke from German to English. Photos by Nino Freitag. The small and intimate Derlon Theater in Maastricht was sold out with 200 attendees. Carla performed a nice mix of opera and operetta songs. The wonderful Casta Diva and Ave Maria were presented in a very romantic way as part of her repertoire, which were very much appreciated by the audience, who at the end presented her, along with Nino, flowers. Carla was supported by the 15 members of the Mandolin Orchestra “The Strings”. During a few songs she was also supported by Manoe Konings, Lin Jong, Kremi Mineva, Tanja Derwahl, Mireille Brepols,  andJennifer de Keersmaecker, her colleagues from the Johann Strauss Orchestra. The concert lasted for one hour and for the encores Carla performed “Heia in den Bergen”. After the concert there were drinks for everybody. We saw Cord Meyer and Judith Luesink in the audience and Ton Maessen and Jet Gelens. During the little after party we spotted several more JSO colleagues. The maestro himself did not appear. Manoe was in charge of the CD sales. Everyone bought a CD and Carla autographed every CD, spoke a few words and was very proud. Nino suggested to have her bring her CDs to the fan dinner gathering on the 5th of July 2013 at the Stiphout ship. We think a lot of fans would like to buy one!
Thank you Suzy, for buying this precious CD for me! Thank you Carla for signing it with warm words! Thank you John, for assisting us with the translations in English!
