A (full) daytrip to the original "Red Rose Café" in Hoorn
In 1976 Pierre Kartner wrote the famous song "The Red Rose Café", also known as "The little Café on the Harbor". This song became popular all over the world and numerous artists recorded it. In 2002, André and the JSO also recorded "The Red Rose Café" and presented the first copy of the CD to Pierre Kartner. The original Red Rose Café is in the town of Hoorn, named 't Schippershuis! There they have 178 different versions of the song available. In 2008 we did organize a trip to Hoorn and the café. Every year we notice a renewed interest in visiting Hoorn and the café. How to park your car in Maastricht. For those coming by automobile and are looking to park their car: Everywhere in the Netherlands, especially inside the cities, it is difficult to park your car. Even more so in narrow medieval cities, like Maastricht. Most parking lots in the city center of Maastricht have the same price: € 1 per 22 minutes or € 25.-- per (24 hours) day/night. The parking garage under the Vrijthof square is the most expensive: € 35.-- per 24 hours. It is so expensive because the municipality tries to discourage the traffic in the city center.Parking outside the city center is cheaper. There is a big parking lot named Belvédère (address: Caberger weg) where you can park your car for about € 9,-- per day. Walking time to the Vrijthof is approximately 15 minutes. Other possibility is to park underneath the Kennedy Bridge, which is called parking lot Stadspark I and Stadspark II. Also walking time to the Vrijthof is approx. 15 minutes. On the St. Peter's mountain, next to Fort St. Pieter and the entrance to Chalet Bergrust and the caves of Grotten Noord, a day ticket is € 6. After 6 PM parking is free. But it will take you a good 30 minutes walk to the Vrijthof!
Lancashire Post, January 11, 2019.By Clare Kelly. Is André Rieu's orchestra key to a more peaceful world??Very regrettably, 2019 seems to be starting off with so many disputes, wars, disagreements, famine, divisions and anger which politicians and others appear incapable of solving. One has only to look at Republicans versus Democrats in the US, the EU verses the UK, Russia versus Ukraine, Saudi Arabia versus Yemen, unions versus the private rail companies and many, many more. But there is a way tensions might be calmed. The amazing Dutch violinist and conductor of the Johann Strauss Orchestra, Andre Rieu, has, for 31 years, led his wonderful band all over the world. His orchestra contains folk from 13 different countries. There is never a row, no in-fighting, all successfully based on fun. Wherever his orchestra plays, everyone is full of happiness, goodwill, caring and love of their fellow man. After two or more hours of playing, there is hardly a dry eye in the audience. His music appeals to everyone. So, if his orchestra was booked for a two-hour session before all future ‘disputes and meetings’, the overall air would be calmer, far more pleasant, and a ‘nice’ outcome much more likely.Everything else seems to be failing right now - so why not give this a try?
