André Rieu 70 years young documentary in cinemas.
January 2020. On the occasion of André’s 70th birthday (Oct.1st 2019), Pierre’s company Piece of Magic created a documentary about the life and career of his father André Rieu. Only two days in cinemas!!! The documentary is named: “André Rieu, 70 years young”. In the cinemas in the Netherlands, the film was shown on Sat. January 18, 2020 at 7 PM and Sun. January 19, 2020 at 3 PM. In Australia and New Zealand on February 8 and 9 2020. Charlotte Hawkins welcomes the cinema audiences from around the world to André’s castle in Maastricht for a birthday celebration. During the party André is talking about his life and music. It’s been an incredible journey: from growing up in a musical family, his church choir days, his marriage to Marjorie, the Salon Orchestra, forming the Johann Strauss Orchestra, the breakaway success of the Second Waltz and his record breaking world tours.
Piece of Magic is a company, owned by Pierre Rieu. We received the video from Portugal. We know that it is not allowed to take pictures/videos from a cinema screen… but how wonderful for the fans in the USA and other countries where the movie is not (yet?) shown. It is just an impression from the start. We hope that the entire movie will be released as a DVD some day. Duration: 6 minutes (of a 2,5 h. film).
André Rieu 70 years young, the movie. Cinema movie. In Dutch cinemas on January 18 and 19, 2020. For a report from newspaper “The Limburger” of January 15, 2020, click HERE to read the article in the Harmony Parlor website.
In our hometown Den Haag (The Hague) the film was shown in two cinemas: Path é Buitenhof and Pathé Scheveningen on Jan. 18 and 19, 2020. As far as I could see both days, both cinemas (almost) sold-out. The price: € 14,50 included a glass of Prosecco. On the picture: Nel and Emmy, Ineke’s friends. We immensely enjoyed the movie, especially the two violin solos by André: My way and You Raise me Up. We saw many familiar faces in the audience: June Shute, Bill and Annette Smith-Walker, Monique, Thea, Ann Sykes, Anna Brincat, Martine Calvinhac. Many wonderful memories of all the concerts we had attended: Maastricht, Vienna, Mainau, Bucarest, Amsterdam, Toronto, Australia. Thank you André. Thank you Piece of Magic entertainment.
