of year 2011 (July - December)

Have you recently watched the Vrijthof Square via the web cam? You may have noticed the covered exhibits of the culinary festivity: "the Preuvenemint" (the tasting). An article appeared in our daily paper that the Limburg wine importer Erik Sauter introduced a South African wine named "Maastricht" to the restaurant owners. He recommended it as a wonderful dinner wine. The restaurant owners agreed. So, after 300 years the South African "Maastricht" wine will return to its roots. If you happen to visit Maastricht next year, you might easily run into the Cape Town "Maastricht" wine. In 2010 we had an item on our website about this winery. Click here to see it!

Maastricht 2011 our story

It’s rehearsal time for André and the JSO. So why not post some musical entertainment as part of our “Just 4 Fun” series.

During a cruise to Norway in May 2011, we saw a performance of the Scottish musical ‘clowns’ Steven Worbey and Kevin Farrell. Normally they make a mess of four hands on one piano. Click on the picture to the right and see them play a piece of music without messing about or so....

Time to explore the “Just 4 Fun” section.

The person behind the phenomenon

On July 14th, André Rieu Productions BV released a beautiful photo book: “André Rieu, De mens achter het fenomeen” (André Rieu, the person behind the phenomenon), written in Dutch by our most famous photographer Govert de Roos. A lot of fans purchased the book in Maastricht and asked for a translation. John and Ineke worked together on a marathon translation for you to enjoy the covering texts with the photos.

Click on the picture of the book.

André Rieu Productions BV gave us permission to post the translation on our website.

JSO members in their spare time.

Many of the JSO members participate in other musical events when not rehearsing or on tour. We have created a new page on this website, which is dedicated to current and ex JSO members performing away from the JSO environment. Vienna, City of my dreams

In October 2011 André released a CD and a DVD with the same cover, but different music and different names: “Wiener Festwalzer” (German) and “And the waltz goes on” (English). That might be a little confusing. Today Ruud and I received the CD and DVD with the German name.

The CD contains gorgeous music, a must have for André fans! Even three newly composed waltzes are on: two composed by André and Frank Steijns and one composed by Sir Anthony Hopkins.

The DVD contains the entire ZDF special ”Vienna City of my Dreams”.
